How to Convert a PDF Bank Statement to Excel

By Shani Dev Gupta · Updated 23 September 2026 · 5 min read

Copying a bank statement from a PDF into Excel by hand takes hours. Converting it gives you rows and columns you can total, filter and use in a pivot table.

Steps

  1. If the statement is password-protected, open it in Chrome, enter the password, then choose Print → Save as PDF. This saves a copy without a password that still contains text. (The Unlock PDF tool saves pages as images, which PDF to Excel cannot read.)
  2. Open PDF to Excel and select the statement.
  3. Choose One sheet per page or All pages in one sheet. One sheet is easier for totals.
  4. Tap Convert to Excel and open the .xlsx file.

Limits

Rows and columns are detected from where the text sits on the page, which works well for digital statements. Scanned statements are pictures and contain no text, so they cannot be converted this way.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work with every bank's statement?

It works with most digitally generated statements. Unusual layouts may need a little clean-up in Excel.

Is my bank statement safe?

Yes. The file is converted in your browser and never uploaded.
